German sportswear company Adidas Originals (adidas Originals) introduces the first virtual wearables powered by blockchain. Adidas Originals' efforts to further its community-based, member-first, open metaverse strategy are accelerated by the launch of the NFT collection, which the leading sports brand has named "Virtual Gear" for its initial range of NFT wearables.
The 16-piece collection, which debuted in May and was airdropped to Into The Metaverse (ITM) NFT holders who seized Phase 2, is now available in the wallets of capsule collection owners. The 16-piece collection, which links the past and present, virtual and real, communities and creators, culture and identity, represents a creative and cultural breakthrough in the history of the brand.
VP of Adidas Reacts on Introduction of NFT Wearables
Adidas VP Erika Wykes-Sneyd made the following remarks regarding the introduction of the NFT wearable:
“I love the opportunity this collection represents for our most engaged community of holders. Every capsule holder has a choice at launch – burn and express their virtual identity with adidas’ first Virtual Gear collection, or list and allow others to join this community. With our community and creator ecosystem at the core, adidas will explore every viable utility, platform, and experience within Web3 to unlock new possibilities for our wearables, with a focus on tangible value and immutable utility for our community members.”
According to the rumor, owners of the Capsule NFT Collection by Adidas Originals can reveal and replace their Capsule NFT to determine which of the 16 unique pieces they have been assigned. This suggests that customers must "burn" their current Capsule NFT in order to randomly select one of the 16 new digital wearable NFTs.
The collection was also discussed by Nic Galway, Senior VP of Creative Direction for Adidas Originals. He stated that Adidas is always one of those brands that is known for pushing the limits of creativity in order to discover what is beyond. He also said:
“But Web3 offers our designers and collaborators a new outlet to imagine, and reimagine, how our brand can be represented in augmented and virtual worlds.”
Starting on November 16th, those who do not already have an adidas Originals: Capsule NFT will be able to purchase the new Virtual Gear collection straight through the various NFT marketplaces. A PFP Tool that will soon be made available will allow community members who own an adidas virtual wearable and an appropriate partner collection NFT (BAYC, MAYC, Inhabitants) to "dress up" their NFT with their adidas virtual wearable.

Notably, the rival brand Nike has long been one of the most significant Web3 participants in the fashion industry. Nike recently unveiled the Swoosh web3 platform to improve its visibility in the non-fungible token (NFT) market.
