When asked on Twitter if it would take Shiba Inu (SHIB) as payment on its platform, financial behemoth PayPal responded.
The SHIB Army, a group of ardent supporters of the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, made the request.
AdRock_0x, a Twitter user, inquired about PayPal's acceptance of SHIB in a conversation on February 11. "Asking for a fren", the user continued.
AdRock_0x was advised by the company's help account to have their friend contact PayPal directly via direct messaging to inquire about taking the cryptocurrency as payment in the response from the company.
Hello there, thank you for contacting PayPal. I'm aware that you want to know you accept $SHIB as payment. I recommend you to tell your friend to contact us directly via DM so that it would be taken care of. Thanks! ^LKP

PayPal began participating in the cryptocurrency market in October 2020. At the time, it made the announcement that users would be able to purchase, store, and trade cryptocurrencies on its platform, which accelerated the bull market. Four cryptocurrencies were initially supported by the business (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin).
PayPal said in June of last year that users in the US could now move cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, to outside wallets. Before then, it was impossible for its American users to remove their cryptocurrency holdings off its site.
Since the firm started allowing users to purchase and trade cryptocurrency, PayPal has reportedly received a considerable amount of requests for the new function.
In December, the financial behemoth made it possible for Luxembourg residents who met the necessary requirements to purchase, sell, and keep Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash in their PayPal accounts through the website or mobile app.
Whether PayPal will include SHIB in its list of supported cryptocurrencies is still up in the air. The transaction on Twitter, however, is likely to lead SHIB Army members to wonder whether they would be able to use their preferred cryptocurrency on the payment platform.
