XRP Ledger, or XRPL for short, boasts of unique innovations in payment technology going back to 2012, before many cryptocurrencies even existed, claims David Schwartz, CTO of Ripple.

A consensus system unique to the XRP Ledger is used, unlike any other digital asset before it. One of the main uses of XRP Ledger is payment processing.

"Since we embraced the RippleNet plan in about 2014, Ripple, the corporation, hasn't really modified our strategy. Even though we've extended a little as our resources have grown, I still think of us as primarily a payments company."

It is important to note at this point that Ripple is a firm that develops software, crypto solutions, and payment infrastructure for companies and organizations.

The native coin of the open-source, decentralized blockchain technology known as XRP Ledger (XRPL), is called XRP.

Schwartz claims that since 2012, XRPL has had a CLOB with cross-currency and cross-asset payments that utilise several channels for liquidity, supported by proof from a GitHub document. A decentralized exchange that makes use of an order book is known as a central limit order book (CLOB). It matches every offer and bid based on priority and price.

Cross-currency transactions that trade XRP, tokens, or both are supported on XRPL and are fully atomic, meaning that either the entire transaction completes or not at all.
