The Marquis Events Place in BGC, Taguig City, is hosting a five-day conference on everything Web3 in the Philippines which started last November 14 and will be culminating on the 18th.

The term "Web3," which alludes to the purportedly next generation of the linked web that will be specifically supported by blockchain technologies, has been extremely popular for a while now. The Philippine Web3 Festival is aiming to demonstrate the current state of the industry and potential future directions through a number of important sessions.

The event's organizers, including CEO of BlockchainSpace Peter Ing and co-founders of Yield Guild Games Gabby Dizon, Beryl Li, and Owl of Moistness, two of the most well-known Web3 companies operating in the Philippines, spoke at the event.

Investors were also present at the event to discuss why they are interested in the Philippines and its Web3 developments, including Mechanism Capital principal Eva Wu, Dragonfly Capital partner Mia Den, and Sequioa Capital investor associate Augusts Ilag.

Axie Infinity co-founder Jeffrey "Jiho" Zirlin, Hongkong-based software company and venture capitalist Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu, metaverse game The Sandbox co-founder Sebastian Borget, and local gaming entertainment company Tier One founder Tryke Gutierrez were also set as the festival's speaker roster due to the growing influence of gaming on Filipinos' exposure to Web3 technologies in 2021.

You can find the whole speaker schedule here.

The cryptocurrency exchange Binance is one of the event's additional partners. According to Kenneth Stern, general manager of Binance Philippines:

“Since the Philippines has potential as one of the big players in the Web3 space, we believe it is important to support the initiatives and movements to develop the industry further.”

The event happened as Bitcoin reached a two-year low following the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, with Binance ultimately pulling out of a plan to save the aforementioned firm.

The event is also featuring co-presenters Telco Globe and GCash. Neil Trinidad, GCash's head of new companies, crypto insurance, and data tech, stated that:

“GCash remains true to its commitment to provide ‘finance for all’ – making products accessible to Filipinos, as it aims to do the same in Web3 while the space continues to grow in the country,”

Co-presenting is MetaverseGo, a platform that aims to make it easier for users to join Web3 guilds, NFTs, and games.

On the second day of the event, the Department of Information and Communications Technology gave a keynote address.

The event's E-Sports competition, Web3 Hackathon, and other community-led side events are also being highlighted.
